KHALSA (PART - 6) - SIKH CELEBRATE EVERY FUNCTION ON SUNDAY
SATNAAM SHRI WAHEGURU
KHALSA - THE PIOUS FRACTION OF THE UNIVERSE
(PART – 6)
(PART – 6)
WHY EVERY CELEBRATION IS ON SUNDAY
Guru sahib has given so much importance to sun as without sun there will be no life on earth, we can not breathe as the plants will not be able to generate oxygen(O2,pranvayu) which is necessary for inhalation and sustaining life.Further sun is the main source of VITAMIN D, which helps the bones to grow and the RED BLOOD CELLS AND WHITE BLOOD CELLS are produced in the bone marrow of the bone with help of VITAMIN D, in other words our BODY DEFENSE MECHANISM will not work in absence of SUN.
As every other planet illuminate with the luster of SUN, so it is important and dominant of all. No negativity can stand in sun. We can see no microorganism can stand the rays of sun.
All the days of the weeks are represented by their dominating planets. The Romans named the successive days of the week after the planets, Sunday being the first. In India it is Ravivara or Adityavara, meaning day of the Sun.
Gurbani says that God created the Sun and the Moon and directs their paths day and night. Thus, movements of planets and stars with mathematical accuracy is controlled by God but the durations of days, months, years and seasons are arbitrarily chosen by us. In addition, there is the rotation of the inclined earth around the Sun which takes place once in 365 full days (and nearly a quarter of a day), the period called a year (divided into 12 groups of days, the months).
UNDERLYING I HAVE POINTED OUT SOME REASONS, IF YOU WANT TO GO TO THE DETAILS ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF SUN IN OUR LIVES.
The sun is very important to us as the sun is a powerful and prominent star in our solar system, a main star of our milky way. The Sun has many names in many cultures. The Latin word for Sun is “sol,” which is the main adjective for all things related to sun: solar.

Here I would like to add that In Sikh Religion, Aarti is performed which means "To Unite with"
Aa means To come and
Rati means To Unite
with that supreme power. It is a way of paying and living in gratitude with nature.

Here I am taking only one line which appreciate the nature
“Gagan mah thaal, Rav-chand Deepak baney Taarka mandal Janak Moti Dhoop maliaanlo Pavan chavaro karey Sagal Banrai phoolant jyoti”
Which means:
The Sky is Your platter, The sun and moon are the ‘Deepaks’ the lamps (lights), The Stars in the sky are the pearls, The ‘Dhoop’ (Incense)is the fragrance, That the wind propels, The whole forest is Your flowers.
Guru sahib are amazed at the nature and praising it.
Meaning giving importance to the sun and moon and the universe.
Sooraj Chand sirjian ahnis chalat veecharo (SGGS–580)
Guru ji empahsised on working hard, so did not encourage wasting of time on any other day, sunday being a holiday was preferred.
All auspicious ceremonies like ANAND KARAJ, BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS, NAAMKARAN, DASTAAR BANDI are done in the presence of sun, as no impurity can stand the sunrays, especially at the time of its rising from approx 6 am to 12 noon, 12 noon its on its peak and its above our head when there we cannot see our shadow, after that its downward movement starts so all the BHOG CEREMONY (MERG) of death are conducted after noon.

( Noon (or midday) is 12 o'clock in the daytime, as opposed to midnight. It is written as 12 noon, 12 p.m. (for post meridiem) or 12 pm.
Solar noon is the time when the Sun appears to contact the local celestial meridian. This is when the Sun apparently reaches its highest point in the sky, at 12 noon apparent solar time and can be observed using a sundial. The local or clock time of solar noon depends on the longitude and date.
Solar noon (informally high noon and formally local apparent solar noon) is the moment when the Sun contacts the observer's meridian, reaching its highest position above the horizon on that day ("Sun transit time") and leaving the shortest shadow. The elapsed time from the local solar noon of one day to the next is exactly 24 hours on only four instances in any given year)
The people who make joke of “12 bajh gaye” don’t know the importance of time, at that time sun is at its peak meaning a person is full of energy at that time, I am taking here only the time concept, other concept of attacking the army at 12 i will be taking later.
COMING TO SANGRAND OR SANKRANTI(SUN ENTERING NEW MONTH) :
As the Sky is mainly divided into 12 parts called zodiacs/raashis so when sun goes form one part of sky to other part that is called as "sankranti " in Hindi and “sangraand” in Punjabi. The day of Sangrand is the day when Sun leaves one Zodiac sign and enters into the other mean new month starts(NANAKSHAHI CALENDER). The people go to GURUDWARA on this day to pray.
I found an article on internet about Why do we SIKHS observe SANGRAND, AMAVASYA, PURNIMA to be sacred days, when our guru ji say all days are sacred?
There is a huge explanation by that person who say “Our preachers, Kirtani Jathas, Kathakars often make an Ardas on this pious day of Sangrand” If we are not the worshippers of the Sun, how has the concept of piety/sacredness of Sangrand entered our life?
To that I have only one answer that we are now grown ups and writing on these matters, but this concept of SANGRAND I have been following since I was a child, I remember one of my neighbors had PRAKASH of GURU JI at their home and I would wait for the SANGRAND day as they would distribute the “KADAH PRASAD” on that day and we got happy that way as we were only concerned about Prasad.
I want to add here that it is not about giving importance to SUN OR MOON, it is that we should teach our coming generation to LIVE IN HARMONY WITH FIVE ELEMENTS OF UNIVERSE AND LIVING IN GRATITUDE WITH NATURE.
As we have disturbed the nature to the extent that it has started draining our energy.
As we have disturbed the nature to the extent that it has started draining our energy.
So we should now learn to respect nature, it is just welcoming the SUN in new month and praying for the well being of the society as they are responsible for life, changing weathers and of course day and night.
I think the new generation needs to know it and it is our sincere duty to guide them, as most of the youth is already detached from some of the sikh rituals, they should be given valid scientific reasons to believe, respect and protect nature.
Collectively worshiping in that matter create a pious aura in the universe sending pure waves which help the universe in healing and knowing that yes the people are grateful to all the five elements of the universe.
I am writing this article in the lockdown due to CORONA, which has also become epidemic due to disturbance of the ECOLOGICAL SYSTEM OF THE UNIVERSE , which has eventually lead to the decrease in the immunity levels of the persons, thats why so many people are affected. I have written an elaborated article describing reasons 'why corona became epidemic', if you are interested you can read that pdf on my site www.piousayurveda.com.

SOLAR SYSTEM...SUN KEEPING EVERY PLANET AT PLACE |
1.
IT IS THE GRAVITY OF THE SUN THAT PULLS ALL
THE PLANETS IN ITS ORBIT…..
Everything
in our solar system orbits the sun. But if there was no sun, nothing would keep
all the planets in orbit. The same as the moon orbiting the Earth, the moon is
pulled in Earth’s orbit. Earth travels in an elliptical orbit around the sun
because the velocity of Earth moves in a perpendicular path due to the force of
the sun’s pull.
2.
ALL THE
PLANETS ILLUMINATE BECAUSE OF LUSTER OF SUN ONLY …..
They all reflect the light of sun only, that is why sun is so
dominating and we give it importance.
3.
THE SUN
HELPS PRODUCE OXYGEN (PRAN VAYU ) WITHOUT WHICH WE CAN NOT LIVE EVEN FOR A
MINUTE
The
sun helps produce a significant product for all life to occur, oxygen (PRAN VAYU) without which we can not live even for a minute. Without sunlight green
plants cannot exist because the process of photosynthesis cannot occur.
Photosynthesis is a chemical process which occur when water and carbon dioxide
combine together (only in the presence of both sunlight and chlorophyll – the
chemical that makes the leaves in plants green) to produce glucose and oxygen.
Plants take in the sunlight, convert it to food to live on, and grow. During
the process plants convert the sunlight to food, plants release oxygen, in
which we breathe.
4.
LIFE ON
EARTH IS IMPOSSIBLE WITHOUT SUN :
Without
the sun the Earth will be dark and cold. We wouldn’t be able to even survive in
extremely freezing weather and permanent darkness. The Sun has made life on
Earth possible, providing warmth as well as energy that organisms and plants use
to form the basis of many food chains.
5.
SUN HELP
GENERATE FOSSIL FUELS
Eventually
all of these plants and animals must die. When they do, they decompose. If a
large enough amount of them decomposes in the same space of land under the
right conditions (including various temperatures and pressures), then fossil
fuels will eventually form over millions of years.
6.
GENERATES
OUR WEATHER PATTERNS
The
Sun warms our seas, stirs our atmosphere, generates our weather patterns. Astronomers
studied the sun in several ways, understanding its functions and applying it to
our world today. The study of the sun has led us to many understandings in
science and advanced us in technology development. The more we understand the
sun the more appreciative we become.
7.
THE SUN IS
THE STARTING POINT OF THE WATER CYCLE. ..
The
sun also plays an important part in the water cycle. The water cycle is the
process of water moving in the earth's atmosphere, land, and water sources like
oceans. The water cycle includes water in the form that we drink (a liquid) as
well as in the changing forms of ice and vapor.
The
sun heats Earth and water bodies oceans,
seas, lakes, rivers and that causes the
water to evaporate. The water vapor transforms into clouds
(condensation), and then the water descend from the clouds as precipitation and
back into the bodies of water or on land and the cycle starts over again.
8.
THE SUN
GENERATE WIND…
Wind is created through the method when
sunlight heats the bodies of water and land. Earth’s atmosphere also heats up,
the warm air rises and the cool air moves to replace the rising warm air. This
transition of warm and cool air, is what
makes the wind blow.
9.
RICH SOURCE
OF VITAMIN D:
SUN
rays provide us VITAMIN D, which is necessary for the bones, as bones have bone
marrow which is the main site of our body’s defence mechanism producing RBCs
and WBCs.
UVB
rays help your body create vitamin D, which is important because it helps keep
bones from becoming fragile. Even though vitamin D is in some foods, vitamin D
from the sun is quicker and efficient for the body.
10.THE SUN INFLUENCE ON EARTH
It takes about eight minutes for light (a form of energy) emitted
by the sun to reach the earth, and it's well worth the wait. The sun warms our
skin and tends to make us be a bit cheerier. The importance of the sun goes
beyond these obvious benefits.
11. PRIMITIVE PEOPLE WORSHIPED THE SUN..
They
knew the importance of sun for life at earth, It is also a way of welcoming the guest or we can say a method of
paying our gratitude towards nature especially SUN at its rise who is providing
life and everything on earth.
They
used to worship it by offering water and flower, which is a way of paying gratitude
to FIRE ELEMENT ON EARTH, Which is one of the five main elements responsible
for the maintainance of the universe. It seems to have a purpose also that is
to pacify the heat generated by sun. People have stopped it and we can see a rise in
global warming and disturbance of ozone layer.
We
can face the sun only when it is rising after that it is not easy to stare at
sun, Further seeing the sun rising through that water keeps our eyesight intact
by toning up our nervine muscles.
We can't
possibly cover all the sun's roles on Earth here, we can summarise that there
will be no life on earth without sun, that is why so much importance is given
to sun and the day when we observe a holiday is Sunday.
Stay blessed and stay healthy
In harmony with nature
