KHALSA ( PART - 2) POWER OF THE SIKH WORD BEYOND BEING DISCIPLE

SATNAAM SHRI WAHEGURU
KHALSA - THE PIOUS FRACTION OF THE UNIVERSE
(PART – 2)
POWER OF THE SIKH WORD BEYOND BEING DISCIPLE

Through my journey of life I wanted to know the meaning of “SIKH” word as I was never fully convinced with the meaning of the word Sikh, which I found in all dictionaries, Wikipedia and Google, saying “SIKH” means “the disciple of his guru,” which is actually right but it sounds polite and does not possess the power of the word SIKH, which this word actually contain in it.
I always emphasis on intentions (bhav,Niyat) while doing any job or starting a new project, as we get benefitted from that job or project according to our intentions. For example while building our dream home we consult so many people, we devote lot of time choosing materials, We see so many houses or constructions, so that we can build a perfect home to live, we put so much effort in naming our house, as name literally gives us the idea about the thinking and nature of people who are living in that house.
We put so much efforts on naming our children as the name portrays the qualities that a person will possess, it is the frequency (weg) that a name generates which impresses others.
For GURU NANAK DEV JI it must be a difficult and important task, as it was a big responsibility. Starting something new and that too against the flow of the society is not easy, one has to fight with lots of odd circumstances. So he needed something so positive and powerful that no one can overpower that energy. He has chosen Sikh word with great thoughts, pious and powerful intentions in the mind.
The word Sikh (sikhna – to learn or seekh – a technique guru taught you or something you follow) literally mean to learn or to follow which is a soft word actually.
I wanted to know the powerful meaning of SIKH WORD, which could actually justify the power which Sikh community portray and actually have in their blood, like they are not fearful and can go to any extent to protect and help someone and ready to counteract any problematic situations. The knowledge, The concentration, The  dedication,  they have are unique qualities and whole the universe appreciate it. GURU JI wanted  these qualities in his followers to possess.
BEFORE GOING TO THE MEANING OF SIKH WORD, I WOULD LIKE TO DISCUSS A LITTLE WHY GURU JI THOUGHT OF INITIATING SOME DIFFERENT CULTURE.....
Guru Nanak Dev ji was Reviver of Gurmat Philosophy. Before him there were many bhagats likes Saint Kabir, Saint Namdev, Saint  Jayadeva and Bhagat Farid who spread message of Gurmat. Gurmat has philosophy of “Har Jug Jug Bhagat Upaya”. Guru Nanak Dev ji revived it. All other successors slowly institutionalize his and others bhagat’s thoughts in the Holy Book cgalled SHRI GURU GRANTH SAHIB JI.
Guru nank dev ji was born in Nankana Sahib near Lahore. His parents were Kalyan Chand Das Bedi, popularly shortened to Mehta Kalu, and Mata Tripta. His father was the local patwari (accountant) for crop revenue in the village of Talwandi. His parents were Hindu Khatris and employed as merchants.
He belonged to a Hindu family, but he followed both Hinduism and Islam extensively. Although he had a deep interest in religion, he also had a rebellious streak, not always accepting religious dogma. Deeply impressed by the profound and convincing thoughts of Guru Nanak, Gopal met Mehta Kalu and advised him to send his son to a learned scholar who could teach him Sanskrit and Hindu scriptures.
So GURU ji learnt Sanskrit and read Vedic scriptures from Pandit Brij Nath ji, a brilliant Sanskrit scholar, famed not only for wisdom and scholarship, but also for his spirituality and insight at Talwandi itself.
With the suggestion of Rai Bular, Mehta Kalu ji sent guru ji for learning Persian and Arabic, so that he could become administrator, when Mehta Kalu wished to retire. Guru Nanak, with his unusual talents, could also take up a higher post under the provincial governor. Persian being the court language and Arabic being the language of Islamic scriptures, their study was important for the children of Kshatriya families. Mehta Kalu requested Mulla Qutab-ud-din to teach Persian and Arabic to Guru Nanak. Within two years he acquired sufficient proficiency in Persian and Arabic languages to enable him to read and study their literature.
Guru Nanak's free use of Koranic terminology, to express some of his theological views in his later writings, shows that it is during this early period he studied the Koran and other available Islamic scriptures.

Motive of writing about his qualification here is to say that he was a learned person, who had learned every Vedic science at his time.He set up a unique spiritual, social, and political platform based on equality, fraternal love, goodness, and virtue. As at the time when Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji was born, there were 2 majors developments were taking place:
 1. Invasion of Mughals causing political turmoil and their torture to the innocent people
 2. Internal religious corruption inside Hinduism.

Hinduism is the main religion of the land of India. When people practice certain faith or belief for long period of time, it is bound to get some impurities inside it. Just like any other substance which can be so good initially, but due to personal interests, people start misguiding other people and the corruption starts. Guru ji was not happy with the rituals at that time and chose a different path.
Although he himself was born in Hindu family but he never considered himself as Hindu as he did not believe in caste system and his whole motive was unity of soceity.  For example, at the age of eleven, boys of his age are supposed to wear a sacred thread of caste. But, Nanak refused to wear the thread, arguing that caste should not be used as a means of judging a person. Nanak would often debate with religious gurus. It is written in Gurbani  ‘Kal Taaran Guru Nanak Aaya’ so the message is clear Guru Nanak came to make people rid of darkness and spread light.

Shri Guru Nanak Dev JI preachings were always to have faith in GOD
“EK NOOR TE SAB JAG UPJAYA KAUN BHALE KO MANDE”
If every human being is part of one supreme power , then who are we to differentiate between the human beings .If everyone is good and child of God then how can we punish someone.  God is present everywhere then we need not to see him in IDOL, that is why he was against the worship of idols or Statues( vigrah), he asked people to believe in the supreme power,  which is present all over and can be felt any time anywhere.
Guru ji started to aware people of getting rid of superstitions and tell people the values of Karma or good deeds, to help poor people by serving food or langar, giving message of equality. See God as a supreme power, as GOD cannot be given any shape, color or cast , as one can assume him as and according to one’s faith.
The essence of Sikh teachings is summed up by Nanak in these words: "Realization of Truth is higher than all else. Higher still is truthful living". Sikh teaching emphasizes the principle of equality of all humans and rejects discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, and gender.
As his thought process was different from every one at that time, so he must have thought to initiate something new and set some new ideas with a different name, from where we say SIKH RELIGION was started. Naming Sikh has full science and literature behind it. Sikh word has more elaborated meanings than we can even think of.
AS PER MY KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE I HAVE NOTICED THAT A GURU ALWAYS WANT TO GIVE HIS CHILDREN OR STUDENTS OR DISCIPLES THE BEST OF HIS KNOWLEDGE, GURU JI DID THE SAME.

A Sikh is a follower of Sikhi:  A religion that is monotheistic, monist and pantheist and originated in the 15th century from the Punjab region in the Indian subcontinent.         The term "Sikh" means disciple or a student that follows his guru (master).

A POINTED FLAME OR A RAY OF LIGHT

Some historians suggest that the name "Sikh" is derived from the ancient term "Saka".   Saka :Literal meaning is to do some great job which influences masses of people.
Various articles have shown its origin from Sanskrit as “SHIKSATI” ( शिक्षति सःशिष्य  ) which means who studies or learns is a follower or student.
The Powerful word I encountered while reading the scriptures came out to be  Shikhi means the Yogi:

The energy field of the North-East direction which we know as shikhar (head) , is called Shikhi, which we  call as the  source of Pran vayu, health and happiness and spirituality.                   Shikhi  means – a pointed flame; the minute form of fire or A ray of light is termed as Shikhi.
When you wish to project your thoughts and influence the world over with the light of your thoughts, then that energy belongs to an energy field called Shikhi. This is that powerful thought which is deep rooted and paves the way for the manifestation of a new world.
Any creation, any product or any service in this world starts from a thought or an idea only. For example An idea appeared in someone’s mind about aeroplanes , So, today aeroplanes are flying in the sky, Same way someone thought of remotes and made them possible , So that we are able to see remote scenes through T.V., and businesses are being governed and run with remotes.
Same way GURU JI thought about a new culture and traditions and he chose the word which itself has lot of power in it.  All such effective and important ideas are an outcome of the Shikhi’s power.
The SIKH reportedly signifies one-pointed (ekanta) focus on a spiritual goal and devotion to God. It is also an indication of cleanliness, as well as personal sacrifice to God.
Sikh  is a person who has tuft of hair (shikha), If we see GURU JI  has given the Sikhism the attire that of Saints, the pious attire, I will be taking up that in detail in coming chapter. I think with the passage of it the word shikh became sikh .
So the SIKH WORD ITSELF HAS GREAT MEANINGS POSSESSING ALL THE QUALITIES OF SIKH RELIGION.
(Here i would like to add with the blessings and instructions of Guru ji that if we chose these spelling of SIKHHword instead of SIKH, Then the different mentalities popping out of Sikhism will vanish. If asked i will explain the reasons with instructions of GURU JI.)

GURU JI BLESS EVERYONE..
